The Harrogate Railway Youth team spent four days at the Army Barracks near York living in two 8 man rooms and eating in the Regimental cookhouse. On the first day the team completed the Army fitness test, where they had some very creditable running times and impressive individual press-ups and sit-ups. This was followed by nearly two hours of football training and then a indoor bowling competition (won by Kieran Glennon). The following day saw the team leave early for the Peak District where after some hill-walking the team all abseiled from a 70 metre crag. On their return to the Barracks and prior to some more football training the team were invited to have a 20 minute game against a Army team which was preparing for a game the following day. After the 20 minutes Railway were winning 3-0. On the third day a game had been arranged against an under-19 team (Hamilton Panthers) that had just won the York Under-19 league without losing a game. In preparation the Railway players went swimming and played some tennis. Railway started well, but found themselves 1-0 down after 15 minutes. However, 10 minutes later George Lazaro equalized before Lyle MacFarlane added two goals in quick succession. In the second half Matthew Wills scored a hat-trick and with 25 minutes still to play the score was 6-1 to Railway. This remained the final score. Railway returned to Harrogate on the fourth day.
